Before I get started on why everyone, and I do mean everyone, should do a boudoir session- let’s get into the nitty gritty of what boudoir is. Originally, it was a room for dressing usually attached to the bed chamber. Nowadays, you hear boudoir and either don’t know what it is, or you associate it with erotic photography.
Boudoir Photography is hard to define, at least for me, because every single person defines it differently during their session. It’s so much more than just sexy images in lingerie! It’s also not just for women like the name would imply. Men deserve to feel sexy and sensual as well! Keep reading for all of the awesome reasons why you should definitely do a boudoir session.

First off, the best reason for doing a session is that it’s empowering as fuck. At some point in your life, or maybe many points in life, you were made to feel as though you were not enough. Someone made you feel as though your body was shameful or wrong in some way.
For me, this started early on. As I grew up in the church, the aspect of being pure was always something that was pushed on me. That my body somehow already belonged to my future husband, and that only he was allowed to enjoy it. You may be familiar with what I’m talking about, but it didn’t just end there. I felt as though it was wrong to enjoy my body in any capacity. I struggled with self-harm and eating disorders, constantly at war with my body and soul.
By helping my client’s celebrate their bodies, I’ve been on my own journey of empowerment. By helping people see themselves in a new light, I have also empowered myself to accept the space my body takes up.

Along with the topic of empowerment, boudoir also helps you claim back your sexuality. You deserve to feel sexy and sensual and there is no place for shame at our sessions. We are sensual beings! Yet so often we are told we cannot be sensual or embrace that side of ourselves.
Well, fuck that.
You CAN embrace this side of yourself! No matter your body size, shape, color, or your orientation. This is a side of you that deserves to be celebrated totally and completely.

On the other end of the spectrum- maybe you’re getting over a breakup where they didn’t support you embracing your sensual self. Maybe they even told you you couldn’t do a session! Honestly, fuck ‘em. Seriously. You deserve it!
So often people are insecure and take that out on their significant other, using gaslighting and manipulation to make them doubt their self-worth. I get so many clients coming in after break ups with significant others who didn’t want them to do sessions, and truly, it is the best way to not only treat yourself but claim your sensuality for you and you alone.
