Iowa Boudoir Photographer | Daenerys Targaryen Themed Boudoir | Cedar Falls, Iowa
If you know me, you know that I'm not a fan of themed boudoir. My reasoning is, I don't want boudoir to be a cover. I'm all about embracing yourself, not impersonating someone or something. If you come to a boudoir session with a sexy cop outfit, I'll put it right back in your bag. Boudoir not about pretending to be something you're not!
BUT
When Dani (calling her that for the sake of this blog as she wishes to be unnamed) sent me a photo of this Daenerys Targaryen themed bodysuit I was SO game. Specifically because she has two bearded dragons so we joke a lot about her being the "mother of dragons."
This shoot is a bit more special to me because we brought in her two beardies for the shoot and one of them was previously mine! It was like a big mushy family reunion. I loved seeing Amisi (formerly Murry) again after all this time!
Dani was excited leading up to her shoot but I could also tell she was nervous. Understandable of course, it's a bit nerve wracking to bear all in front of a camera! She was just marvelous, of course. Seeing her get more and more comfortable throughout the shoot was so amazing! I asked if she wanted to hang out for a bit and do a same-day reveal which I sometimes offer if I have time and she said yes! Plus we've been friends for a while so that changes things.
This is the part I'm most excited about! The new year brought on some changes to how I run my business, one being that I now do in-person reveals! Even for photographers that just send digital galleries (no shame, do what works for you!) I feel like boudoir is so much more important for being there when they first see their photos. The reveal is so intimate and can bring about so many emotions! Sometimes clients need that extra love if they're unsure of themselves, no matter how great the photos are. Embracing your body is so hard to do, and I love making sure clients know just how beautiful they are!
I do not alter my clients of anything permanent. I fix blemishes and color correct photos. My editing process does bring out a lot of skin issues so I do touch up skin if needed, but other than that I don't make huge changes. I do this because I feel that boudoir is about documenting your true self. I want you to say, "hell yeah, that's me and I'm a fricken hottie!" Well, maybe not that exact wording but you get the gist. I seriously cannot wait for Dani's book with her images to get here!
I definitely think that being gushed over by my Facebook group is all part of the experience! Dani's photos totally broke my group, I swear! The ladies in my group know how to build each other up, that's for sure!
